Acquia Raises $8.5MM Series C
This week one of Optaros' partners, Acquia (www.acquia.com), raised $8.5 million in series C funding from North Bridge Venture Partners, Sigma Partners and CEO, Tom Erickson, bringing their total to $23.5 million. The funds will reportedly be used to help grow their enterprise business (and use of Drupal in the enterprise in general) and to expand their operations into the European market.
It appears as though Acquia had a particularly good year in 2010, with reported 300% growth, over 100 enterprise hosting customers and Drupal Gardens drawing 25,000 new subscribers (not sure how many of these are paid). I would assume this will be their last round of funding and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for them, particularly in terms of their geographic expansion and peripheral products, like Drupal Commons.
For more info on the funding, see the official press release and, more interestingly, Dries' thoughts, with some good anecdotal stats on the company's (and Drupal's), growth.
